Global Education Futures Review (GEFR) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal dedicated to publishing pioneering research, strategic analyses, and comparative policy evaluations on the future trajectories of global education systems. Positioned as a premier educational policy and futures-thinking scholarly forum, the journal serves educational policy planners, comparative education scholars, university leaders, international development experts, and educational sociologists worldwide. GEFR prioritizes rigorous empirical research, comparative international studies, futures methodologies (such as scenario planning and horizon scanning), and systemic reform models that examine how global megatrends—including demographic shifts, digital transformation, climate change, and economic restructuring—reshape learning paradigms. By bridging macro-level educational policy with pedagogical innovation and global equity, the journal fosters a deep, comprehensive understanding of how flexible, resilient, and inclusive educational ecosystems can be built for future generations.

Scope and Topics
Reflecting its mandate to analyze long-term trends, global policies, and transformative shifts in education, the journal welcomes high-quality original research articles, systematic policy reviews, comparative education studies, and futures-oriented frameworks within the following thematic areas:

Global Educational Policy & Systemic Governance: Comparative education policy, international assessment frameworks, educational decentralization, public-private partnerships, and global governance in education.

Futures Thinking & Strategic Educational Planning: Horizon scanning, scenario building for future schooling, foresight methodologies in education, and long-term human capital development strategies.

Digital Transformation & Future Learning Ecosystems: Globalization of online higher education, AI-driven educational infrastructures, global digital divides, micro-credentials, and lifelong learning ecosystems.

Education for Sustainable Development & Global Citizenship: Climate change education, global ethics, peace education, social justice, and internationalizing curricula for 21st-century competencies.

Equity, Inclusion & Mobility in Global Education: Transnational student mobility, refugee and emergency education frameworks, gender parity in STEM, and socio-economic inclusion policies across OECD and developing nations.

Publication Frequency
To ensure rigorous editorial oversight, thorough peer review, and the timely dissemination of global educational research, GEFR is published semi-annually (2 issues per year, typically scheduled for release in June and December). Special thematic issues focusing on the future of higher education governance, AI policy in global schools, or climate-resilient educational infrastructure may be commissioned by the Editorial Board.

Peer Review Process
GEFR enforces a strict double-blind peer review policy to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity, analytical objectivity, and methodological validity across educational and policy disciplines.
  • Initial Desk Evaluation: Every submission undergoes a preliminary screening by the Editor-in-Chief or a relevant Subject Editor to assess thematic alignment, international relevance, methodological soundness (quantitative policy analysis, comparative qualitative studies, futures methodology, or mixed-methods rigor), and structural compliance. Plagiarism screening via Turnitin/iThenticate is strictly executed at this stage, requiring a similarity index below the journal's maximum threshold.
  • Expert Peer Review: Manuscripts passing the desk evaluation are anonymized and assigned to at least two independent international reviewers who are established academic experts or senior policy analysts in comparative education or educational futures.
  • Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editorial Board renders one of four decisions: Acceptance, Revisions Required (Minor/Major), Resubmit for Review, or Rejection. The final decision rests entirely on intellectual merit, theoretical/analytical rigor, policy relevance, and global impact.
